Fire Safety – Stay Put if you live in a flat

By 14th May 2026News

Your safety is our top priority, and we want to remind you about the fire safety arrangements in your building.

If you live in a flat, your building operates a “stay put” policy. This means that, in most cases, if a fire occurs elsewhere in the building and your home is not directly affected, the safest action is to remain inside your flat with doors and windows closed.

This approach is based on the way the building has been designed to contain fire and smoke, helping to keep you safe while emergency services respond.

If a fire occurs inside your home, you should leave immediately and call 999. If you are ever advised to evacuate by the local fire service or by us, you should follow those instructions straight away.

As part of new government fire safety guidance, we are also taking steps to support residents who may need additional help in an emergency. This includes offering additional person-centred fire risk assessments and agreeing clear plans for those who may find it harder to evacuate.

The new guidance does not allow us to share your details with the local Fire Service without your consent. If you feel you may need assistance to leave your home in the event of a fire, please contact us so we can discuss the support available and put a plan in place with you.

If you have any questions about fire safety or your building’s evacuation arrangements, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
